Three inmates at SCI-Somerset will be charged with assault after allegedly throwing feces at corrections officers in the state prison’s restricted housing unit earlier this month, state police said.

The first of two alleged incidents happened on April 6 in the Somerset Township facility when two corrections officers were walking past a cell containing two inmates, Colby Mummaw, 24, from Mountville, Lancaster County, and Christopher Myers, 32, from West Chester, Chester County. As the officers passed the cell, Mummaw and Myers struck them with feces, troopers said in a news release.

Just over one hour later, inmate Vincent Tabone struck an officer in the face and right arm with feces when the officer walked past his cell, according to state police. Tabone, 27, from Carnegie, Allegheny County, then allegedly shouted obscenities at the officer.

State police said complaints against Mummaw, Myers and Tabone will be filed before Rockwood District Judge Sandra L. Stevanus.
