The Indiana County Coroner’s office and state police are continuing to investigate the death of a newborn infant Wednesday that died shortly after his birth Wednesday in Creekside.
Trooper Cliff Greenfield said an autopsy was performed Thursday on the male infant by ForensicDX, a forensic pathology laboratory in Windber. However, the results of forensic tests are needed before a determination can be formally made on the cause and manner of death.
Greenfield said troopers believe that the child was born at the residence on Arch Street at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday and that the child’s mother immediately summoned help from a family member, who called 911.
On Thursday, troopers reported they were notified at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday that the child had died at a residence on Arch Street in the rural borough of approximately 300 residents north of Indiana.
“Indiana County Coroner Jerry L. Overman Jr. requested that troopers respond to assist with the investigation. Emergency Medical Service had been summoned to the residence and, upon their arrival, attempted to resuscitate the child, but were unable to do so,” Greenfield said.
“Troopers also seized various items of drug paraphernalia from the residence,” Greenfield said.
No further information is being released pending further investigation.
