A Fayette County man is accused of threatening a district judge following his arrest last week for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and the family cat.
David Lee Kovach, 29, of Smock, was charged by state police in Uniontown with disorderly conduct, harassment and making terroristic threats toward South Union District Judge Jennifer Jeffries.
During an arraignment before Jeffries Wednesday on domestic assault and animal cruelty charges, Trooper James Hanley reported Kovach swore at the judge when she set his bond at $10,000 straight cash.
“Kovach was then taken to a holding cell. In my presence, Kovach made the statement, ‘You think that (expletive) is going to survive when I get out?,’ ” Hanley wrote in a complaint filed with Uniontown District Judge Michael Metros.
On Thursday, Metros ordered Kovach held in the Uniontown lockup without bail pending a preliminary hearing Jan. 22.
