Helen Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore — the volunteer firefighter who was killed during the attempted assassination at Donald Trump’s rally in Butler County — announced via social media she spoke with the former president.

She said via Facebook that Trump offered his condolences.

“He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead,” Helen Comperatore’s post read.

“I told him the same thing I told everyone else. He left this world a hero and God welcomed him in. He did not die in vain that day.”

She turned down a phone call from President Joe Biden, according to the New York Post.

Biden called Helen Comperatore following the shooting, the Post reported Monday. She told the newspaper she wanted nothing to do with him.

“I didn’t talk to Biden,” Helen Comperatore told The Post. “I didn’t want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican, and he would not have wanted me to talk to him.”

Corey Comperatore, 50, of Buffalo Township was born in Natrona Heights and graduated from Freeport Area High School, according to his obituary.

Contributing lifelong service to the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, where he was chief in the early 2000s, Corey and Helen Comperatore have two daughters, Allyson and Kaylee Comperatore.

“Corey was the quintessential family man and the best girl dad,” his obituary says. “He was quick to help those in need, never expecting anything in return, and his impact on the lives he touched was profound.”

“I support Trump. That’s who I’m voting for, but I don’t have ill will towards Biden,” Helen Comperatore told the Post. “He didn’t do anything bad to my husband. A 20-year-old despicable kid did.”

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, as the shooter at the rally. He was killed by the Secret Service after he fired shots during the rally, killing a Buffalo Township man and seriously injuring a Plum man and another from Moon.
