CSX workers were at the site of an apparent derailment of freight cars about 200 yards south of the Amtrak passenger station at Water Street in Connellsville.

According to CSX spokesperson Sheriee Bowman, at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, two boxcars derailed within the CSX Connellsville yard. The railcars remained upright, with no leaks or spills of any freight and no impact to the public or train operations.

The cars had been moved from the incident site and crews from CSX were working on the tracks on Sunday morning.

Service on Capitol Limited was operating as scheduled as of noon on Sunday, according to spokesperson Kimberly Woods at Amtrak. “Trains 29 and 30 that departed on Sept. 9 are operating with minimal delays,” Woods said in an email.
