Community College of Beaver County officials are working to find out what led to a cyber attack.
Leslie Tennant, CCBC vice president of communications, said they experienced a cybersecurity incident Monday that included the encryption of some of its data.
“Upon discovery, we immediately took steps to investigate and remediate the situation, including reporting the incident to federal law enforcement and federal regulators, and engaging experienced cybersecurity professionals to assist in our response,” Tennant said via email.
“Our team has been working around the clock with cybersecurity professionals to secure our systems and learn more about the situation, including what information may have been impacted.”
It was unclear by Tennant’s statement what data may have been compromised.
Tennant said school officials are working with local police and the FBI, and more information will be released once a thorough investigation is complete.
A message left for Center Township police was not immediately returned.
“We are grateful to our school leadership and staff for their diligent response, as well as to our students and community for their patience as we work to resolve this issue,” Tennant said.
