Thousands of Cigna Healthcare insurance members will keep full, in-network access to Allegheny Health Network following a contract agreement between the organizations.

The deal was reached Friday after a monthslong dispute, the second in the past two years. It ensures more than 20,000 Cigna members in the region can continue to use Allegheny Health Network’s 14 hospitals and more than 2,600 doctors through June 30, 2028.

Cigna members who have clinical visits or procedures scheduled for next week will be able to keep those appointments, Allegheny Health Network said in a news release.

Allegheny Health Network spokesman Bill Toland declined to provide further terms of the deal.

The health care provider warned patients earlier this month it had yet to reach a “fair and mutually acceptable agreement with Cigna.” With the current contract set to expire at the end of June, the letter said, in-network access could be at risk. Patients could have continued to use Allegheny Health Network facilities out of pocket.

Cigna did not immediately return a request for comment.

The sides also had trouble striking a deal in 2023, but ultimately came to an agreement without any disruptions in care.
