A flood watch for much of the region remains in effect through Sunday morning, while a river flood watch for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh is scheduled to be in effect from late Sunday night to Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh.
The flood watch is scheduled until 8 a.m. Sunday, as flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties are among those affected.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the weather service said. Creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.
According to the weather service, an addition 1 to 1.5 inches of rain is possible through Saturday night, with locally higher totals possible. The chance for flooding may increase because of the ground being saturated from recent rain.
The river flood watch for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh is scheduled to run from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.
According to the weather service, the Ohio River is forecast to reach 18 feet early Sunday morning, which would result in water flowing onto the Monongahela parking wharf.
Temperatures are forecast to plummet below normal Sunday and into early next week, with a high of 46 on Sunday and rain showers mixing with snow showers Sunday night.
The high temperature is forecast to bottom out at 37 on Tuesday, before slowly climbing after that day.
