Fayette man charged with cruelty in shooting death of neighbors' cat
A Fayette County man is charged with cruelty to animals, accused of shooting and killing a pet cat that strayed into his yard from a nearby home.
State police from the Uniontown station said Harold Earl Hair Jr., 63, of Dunbar, admitted using a .22-caliber rifle to shoot a black cat that was in his yard on the afternoon of Aug. 9. According to police, Hair said he had issues with cats urinating on his back porch.
The cat, named “Alley,” was wearing a purple collar and was the pet of nearby residents in the 200 block of Connellsville Street.
Hair was arraigned Monday on one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals and two additional counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, involving torture and death of the cat.
Hair was released on his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing Sept. 17 before District Judge Nathan A. Henning in East Uniontown.
