Firearms deer hunting season to wrap up in Pennsylvania
The window of opportunity to go hunting for deer in Pennsylvania is quickly shrinking, as firearms deer season closes this Saturday.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission reminded hunters to make the most of the final days in the woods.
After Gov. Josh Shapiro signed a bill in the summer lifting the state’s age-old ban on Sunday hunting, the Pennsylvania Game Commission was able to add 13 Sunday hunting opportunities to this deer season.
The prohibition law on Sunday hunting officially took effect in September.
There was not a single safety incident reported involving a hunter and a non-hunter during the 13 Sunday hunting dates this year, according to Steve Smith, the game commission’s executive director.
“This demonstrates what we have stated all along: hunters and non-hunters can safely share Pennsylvania’s outdoors together,” Smith said. “We look forward to building on the success from this year and continuing to expand hunting access for generations to come.”
For next license year, the commission will begin the process of adopting the 2026-27 hunting season scheduled this January.
”This will mark the first time the Board of Commissioners can consider adding more Sunday opportunities from the outset,” the commission said.
Sunday hunting will remain open for foxes, coyotes and crows during their respective seasons for the remainder of the license year, which is through June 30, the commission said.
There are no Sunday hunting opportunities during the upcoming extended firearms deer seasons or the late archery and flintlock deer seasons, according to the commission.
