First snow of season hits Western Pennsylvania

Halloween decorations remain from the Hobgoblin Hikes at Twin Lakes Park in Latrobe on Wednesday. Hobgoblin Hikes are half-mile guided walks at Westmoreland County Parks.

Snow hit parts of Western Pennsylvania on Wednesday morning. It began overnight on Halloween.

Much of the snow was north of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County in places such as Butler and Mercer counties, as well as Westmoreland County to the east. National Weather Service meteorologists had predicted an accumulation of up to one-and-a-half inches.

Almost 10 inches were recorded near the Crawford/Venango county line, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

Temperatures on Wednesday morning were in the 30s.

The snow was short-lived as conditions became mostly clear during the morning.

Thursday’s temperature is expected to reach 50 degrees under sunny skies.
