A former Canon-McMillan wrestler who was shot by police this month was released from a hospital Thursday and arraigned on aggravated assault and related charges, according to court records.

Family of Logan B. Macri, 19, posted $100,000 bail for him, said his attorney Casey White.

“He is now addressing any and all physical and emotional needs that he may have,” White said.

Police were called to Macri’s North Strabane home on April 14 for a reported domestic assault. Macri allegedly was threatening his mother with a gun and sword, according to court papers. The woman told police she believed her son may have been under the influence of drugs.

When officers arrived, Macri at first obeyed commands to get on the ground, but then jumped up and grabbed an AR-15, pointing it at the officers, according to a criminal complaint.

The officers fired their weapons, hitting Macri several times.

The situation was the result of confusion on Macri’s part, White said.

“Logan never had any ill will toward any law enforcement personnel,” he said.

Macri was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. He was a 2018 state high school wrestling champion.

State police got an arrest warrant two days later for charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.

“He’s sorry that he placed those officers in the position they were placed in,” White said.

A May 7 preliminary hearing is set.

Officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave while state police investigate.
