The month of September usually brings falling leaves, pumpkin flavors and cooler breezes — but the weather this weekend and into next week is out of the ordinary.

Sweater weather will have to wait.

The National Weather Service report on Friday revealed that Pittsburgh and surrounding county residents should expect unseasonably warm temperatures.

Meteorologist Matt Brudy said the heat and dry conditions are very atypical for this time of the year.

“The average high for this time of year — leading into mid September — is high 70s,” Brudy said. “We are going to be nine to 10 degrees warmer.”

He said the region is experiencing drought conditions.

On Friday, weather is expected to have highs in the lower 80s, followed by lows in the lower 50s on Friday.

The heat on Saturday will follow suit with highs in the lower 80s once again. Toward the end of the day however, temperatures will be a little bit warmer with lows of upper 50s.

On Sunday, residents can expect highs in the mid-80s and lows in the upper 50s.

Brudy said this pattern — higher pressure extending from the south — will continue into next week.

Brudy said that when this phenomenon happens for a prolonged period of time the temperature and dryness will increase because of the “pull of warmer air from the south.”

Monday will have highs in the mid-80s and lows around 60.

Tuesday will also have highs in the mid-80s and lows in the upper 50s.

Wednesday’s weather will mirror Tuesday.

This weekend into early next also have low chances of rain, Brudy said.
