PennDOT lifts travel restrictions as winter storm ends
Speed limits and commercial vehicle travel are back to normal on Pennsylvania highways Tuesday morning following the previous evening’s winter storm.
PennDOT reduced speed limits to 45 mph on many Pennsylvania highways as the state was belted with snow and ice. All speeds had been restored to their usual limits by 5:30 a.m.
Some restrictions on commercial vehicles remained in place until later in the morning, but all had been lifted as of 9 a.m.
The National Weather Service’s winter storm warning — originally set to expire at 1 p.m. Tuesday — was lifted just before 7 a.m.
Freezing rain is moving out of the area, but the cold air is moving in. Don't expect the temperature to go up today as the incoming cold air will actually result in values dropping through the day today. ? Watch out as any wet surfaces may freeze up! #PAwx #Pittsburgh pic.twitter.com/tbdRFhPpeh

The travel restrictions banned tractors without trailers, tractors towing unloaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers; enclosed cargo delivery trucks that meet the definition of a commercial motor vehicle; passenger vehicles towing trailers; recreational vehicles/motorhomes; school buses, commercial buses and motor coaches not carrying chains, and motorcycles.

Officials remind drivers never to try to pass a truck while it is plowing or spreading salt. Drivers traveling during the storm also are urged to pack an emergency kit, including items such as non-perishable food, water, a blanket, a small shovel, warm clothes and medication.
