An Indiana County man was crushed to death when the carport he was sitting under collapsed, according to authorities.

Richard Wade Rearick, 52, of Shelocta was sitting on a chair against a wall under the carport attached to his home when the roof caved in on him, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Saturday along Weiss Road, Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. told the television station.

Authorities said Rearick’s mother was inside the home when she heard a cracking sound followed by a loud noise as the carport fell.

Shelocta is located about 60 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
