Two IUP students were injured on Valentine’s Day during two off-campus armed robberies on the 800 block of Wayne Avenue.

Indiana Borough police continue to process evidence and conduct follow-up interviews in the wake of a pair of armed robberies that left two Indiana University of Pennsylvania students injured on Valentine’s Day, including one who was shot in the neck.

Borough police said Sunday night that they had recovered cellphones stolen during Friday’s armed robberies at two houses in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue.

“Investigators have amassed a significant amount of physical evidence from both crime scenes and investigative leads,” police officials wrote in a news release sent Monday afternoon. “Police continue to believe there is no current risk to community safety.”

Borough police said their investigation determined that three masked intruders, at least one of whom displayed a weapon, entered residences in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue and made demands of the residents.

Police said items were taken from one residence and an altercation occurred at the second home, resulting in a male IUP student being shot.

In a news release issued Saturday afternoon, police said the preliminary investigation led them to believe the robberies were “not a random incident.”

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the IUP tip line at 724-357-2255 or to take advantage of its anonymous online reporting service.
