Junior Achievement of Western PA is shining attention on tomorrow’s leaders with its latest initiative, 18 Under Eighteen. Looking to showcase teens and inspire others, 18 under Eighteen will celebrate and honor 18 youths in our communities for making a difference through their exemplary leadership.
Nominations are being accepted through Nov. 30, with selected candidates being announced Dec. 17. An awards presentation in Pittsburgh is scheduled for Feb. 22, 2022.
“Throughout this pandemic, our youth have endured many things and we have witnessed firsthand how many of them have risen to the challenge by demonstrating significant and positive impact in the communities they reside,” said Patrice Matamoros, president of Junior Achievement of Western PA. “18 Under Eighteen allows us to commend these amazing young individuals who give us all hope for a bright and promising future.”
Students selected for 18 Under Eighteen will represent a wide range of strengths, interests and skills that embody how they have distinguished themselves as leaders and role models, using their abilities to succeed in raising money, volunteering, and/or engaging in entrepreneurial pursuits. Candidates will be chosen by a diverse panel of judges in the corporate, non-profit, community and educational sectors of our region.
During the 18 Under Eighteen reception, JA will showcase the 18 students who are making extraordinary impacts in their communities. JA will accept nominations for individuals 18 years or younger residing in the 56-county footprint of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.
“18 Under Eighteen empowers and promotes the innovative talent in our region and shines a beautiful spotlight for everyone to see all the remarkable things our next generation is doing to make this world a better place,” Matamoros said.
