Kennywood bringing back iconic floral clock

A popular landmark in Kennywood Park is returning.

Officials for the amusement park in West Mifflin announced on social media that the floral clock will be returning this summer.

The floral clock, which was changed each season since being installed in 1953, was removed along with a fountain in 2018 to make room for the Thomas Town attraction.

The location for the new floral clock was not announced.

Some of the themes used for the clock in the past include the Liberty Bell to mark the nation’s bicentennial celebration in 1976, a locomotive representing the park’s train ride, Kenny Kangaroo and a carousel horse, according to a book by David P. Hahner that chronicles the amusement park’s history.

Kennywood is owned by Palace Entertainment, which also operates Idlewild & SoakZone in Ligonier and Sandcastle water park in Homestead,

Last summer Kennywood debuted a new roller coaster, the Steel Curtain.

A complement to the Steel Curtain called the Steelers Experience is expected to open this spring.

The attraction is an interactive area that will feature exclusive merchandise, skill games and food.

Sandcastle plans to debut the Bombs Away water slide this summer.

Kennywood Park opens May 2.
