Laurel Highlands High School students are prohibited from carrying any type of bag into the school building until Tuesday after a bedbug was found there, according to Superintendent Jesse Wallace.
The bedbug was found in the belongings of a student at the school on Friday, according to a letter posted on the district website.
District parents were asked to check their children and their belongings for bedbugs and to launder any items that come into the school — backpacks, swimsuits and gym clothing and bags — and dry them on high heat for 30 minutes.
The high school building has been closed twice since the discovery for cleaning and extermination, Wallace said in the letter. Exterminators did not find any additional bedbugs, he said.
All vehicles used for transporting district students were treated, too. The student involved in the initial discovery has been cleared to return to school, he said.
