Man dead, woman injured in Uniontown home invasion shooting
A 19-year-old man was killed and a woman injured in a shooting at a Uniontown apartment Saturday that city police said stemmed from a home invasion.
Elijah Fitzgerald, 19, of Uniontown was fatally shot as he and two others broke into the Pershing Court home around 2:20 p.m., according to police Lt. Tom Kolencik.
The injured woman was inside the apartment with a man when the trio forced their way inside. She was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
“She was alert and awake and was providing information,” he said.
Investigators are gathering video surveillance from Pershing Court and nearby homes and businesses. No charges have been filed. Police are trying to determine the reason for the home invasion.
There were multiple shots fired during the home invasion, Kolencik said. The man inside the apartment was taken into custody, questioned and released pending further investigation. Investigators are working to determine who fired the shots.
The other two suspects fled on foot.
“That’s our biggest hunt right now is for the other two,” Kolencik said.
Police are not releasing the names of the injured woman or man who was inside the apartment. Christina Craggette told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV that her 19-year-old niece, who lives at the apartment, was shot in the leg. She underwent surgery at a hospital, Craggette said.
Anyone with information about the shooting and home invasion is asked to call Uniontown Police at 724-430-2929 or Crime Stoppers of Fayette County at 724-437-8477.
