Man facing charges in Beaver County high-speed police pursuit
An 18-year-old Monaca man is facing charges after state police said he led them on a high-speed chase in Beaver County early Tuesday.
Troopers said they tried to make a traffic stop on a Dodge Avenger near the Hopewell exit on Interstate 376 west just before 1:30 a.m., but the driver fled. Authorities from Allegheny and Beaver counties pursued the car, unsuccessfully attempting several PIT maneuvers, in which an officer uses their vehicle to push the fleeing vehicle sideways to end the chase.
The driver exited the highway in Center Township and the car became disabled in a plaza near Beaver Valley Mall, according to a news release. It was unclear how it became disabled.
Police said the driver fled on foot and was captured not far away.
Krzysztof A. McCauley is charged with fleeing from police, reckless endangerment and related offenses. He was being held at the Beaver County Prison on $35,000 bail.
An attorney for him was not listed in online court records. An April 14 preliminary hearing is set.
