A truck carrying a massive load of 153 tons of steel will wind its way through Western Pennsylvania on Thursday, slowing traffic on major arteries from Allegheny County to Columbiana County, Ohio.
The superload will cause rolling traffic stoppages as it needs two lanes to move through, PennDOT officials said.
The truck will drive about 25-30 mph or slower and use alternate routes when possible.
It is expected to travel through portions of Allegheny, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, Mercer and Westmoreland counties.
The truck is carrying a steel cone that is 136 feet long and nearly 28 feet wide. Aliquippa-based Southern Pines Trucking, Inc. is transporting the load.
The load will begin its journey on the Tri-Boro Expressway near Homestead and move to William Penn Highway in Monroeville before going into Indiana County and beyond.
The superload will then travel Interstate 80 to the Ohio line.
Drivers should remain alert for the slow-moving, two-lane operation, PennDOT said.
A similar superload made its way through the region on Sept. 17, 2024, traveling from Columbiana County, Ohio, to the U.S. Steel Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock.
