Teen stabbed in Downtown Pittsburgh
A teenager was found stabbed in the 800 block of Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Pittsburgh police said.
The 17-year-old had stab wounds to his upper back and shoulder. Bystanders had taken him into a nearby business and helped him until officers and medics arrived, police said.
Police determined the stabbing happened at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Strawberry Way.
He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Man arrested after woman shot in Crafton Heights
Pittsburgh police said they arrested a man after a woman was found shot in the head early Friday.
Officers went to the 900 block of Woodlow Street just after 2 a.m. for reports of a shooting, police said.
The 27-year-old woman was found in an apartment with a single gunshot wound to her head. She was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Police said the woman was shot during an argument with a man, who fled and barricaded himself in a nearby apartment.
SWAT responded and made contact with the man, who surrendered just after 5 a.m., police said. He was not identified.
Fire destroys Beaver County dairy barn
A building containing machinery at a Beaver County dairy farm was destroyed by fire Thursday evening.
The fire at Brunton Dairy in Independence Township started in a building with equipment, the boiler and other machinery, township fire Chief Jeri New told Tribune-Review news partner WTAE-TV.
A Hopewell firefighter was treated for dehydration.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
2 flown from Beaver County stabbing
Two people were flown to a hospital Thursday night after a stabbing in Beaver County.
The stabbing happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the 4900 block of Rochester Road in Pulaski Township, WTAE reported.
New Brighton police are investigating.
National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
The Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday.
The DEA has held the day since 2010 to fight prescription drug misuse by creating convenient ways to dispose of old, unused or unwanted medication that would otherwise be at risk of misuse in home medicine cabinets.
During the most recent take-back day in April, the DEA collected more than 29,000 pounds of unused medication in Pennsylvania across nearly 260 collection sites.

Pennsylvania has a year-round take-back program. As of Sept. 30, more than 92,000 pounds of prescription medication has been collected and destroyed this year, and more than 1.2 million pounds have been destroyed statewide since 2015.
