Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Monday, Sept. 15:

Child dies in Elizabeth Township fire

A child was in critical condition early Monday following an early-morning fire in Elizabeth Township. TribLive news partner WTAE reports Monday evening that the child has died.

The blaze broke out just after 12:30 a.m. at a home in the 1900 block of Parkvue Street, according to WTAE.

Elizabeth Township Fire Department chief Adam Janosko told the station that hoarding conditions affected firefighters’ ability to get to the child.

“The interior condition of the house, beyond the amount of fire that was observed and encountered, was basically hoarding conditions and made traversing inside to get to the juvenile pretty difficult,” Janosko said.

Firefighters located the child in a bedroom, according to WTAE. A woman who lived in the home was able to escape through a second-floor window.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Man shot, arrests made in East Allegheny attempted robbery

A man was shot Saturday morning during an attempted robbery at his apartment in Pittsburgh’s East Allegheny neighborhood, according to WTAE.

At 12:30 a.m., Pittsburgh police were dispatched to Pressley Street for a report of robbery and aggravated assault, according to WTAE. Upon arrival, officers found a man shot in the chest.

The man told police that two men knocked on his door and demanded the contents of his backpack and cash from his wife. One of them then fired his weapon, according to WTAE.

The victim is currently in stable condition.

Police arrested Raymond Conti, William Roberson and Duwayne Carey in connection to the incident.
