Girl shot in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights

A man has been charged with shooting a teen girl in the leg Sunday night in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights neighborhood.

Hassan Said Abdi, 24, of Pittsburgh, was charged with aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license and recklessly endangering another person, online court records show.

He is awaiting a preliminary arraignment.

Police responded to reported gunfire around 9:20 p.m. at the 170 block of Penfort Street.

Upon arriving, officers found a 15-year-old outside with a bullet wound in her lower leg, officials said.

No shooter was found at the scene.

EMS took the victim to a hospital in stable condition.

The victim, who police did not identify, told officers a man she knew as YC —later identified as Abdi — shot her while he was changing the magazine on a gun, according to a criminal complaint.

Police said the shooting was captured on surveillance footage from the city’s housing authority.

The video, the complaint said, shows the man appear to take something from one of two females he approached on a sidewalk. The video then shows what appears to be a muzzle flash.

One female jumped and began to run while the other was seen on video hopping on one leg.

According to the complaint, Abdi gave the victim his T-shirt to wrap around her leg.

The complaint said Abdi admitted to the shooting while being taken into custody, telling officers, “It was an accident.”

Abdi told officers he forgot he had loaded a round into the chamber, the complaint said

Officials said Abdi also told officers he bought the gun, a Ruger, from a friend for $400 about a year ago but it was not legally registered to him.

Multiple people injured in Fayette County stabbing

Multiple people were injured Sunday in a stabbing in Fayette County.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to a home in the 50 block of Park Street in Redstone Township around 12:30 p.m., according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

Troopers found six people involved in the incident, WTAE reported.

Two people were flown to area trauma centers and three others were taken to nearby hospitals. One person was treated on the scene and released.

Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele told WTAE the suspect, Richard Hall, attacked his estranged wife and family.

The district attorney credited an 11-year-old daughter for shielding her mother from further attacks during the incident, WTAE reported.

An investigation is underway.
