Man killed in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights
A man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights neighborhood early Saturday morning.
Public Safety spokesperson Eliza Durham said officers were dispatched shortly before 1 a.m. to the 100 block of Hazlett Street for a ShotSpotter alert.
Officers found a man inside a residence shot multiple times in the back.
Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Laron Harrison, 38.
Authorities said he died at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Pittsburgh Police at 412-323-7800.
Gun discovered at airport checkpoint
A California man is facing charges after a a firearm was discovered in his carry-on bag at an alternate security checkpoint at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Allegheny County police said the gun was found shortly before 3 p.m. Friday in the bag of Fauth Oruc, 21.
Transportation Security Administration officers made the discovery and alerted police, who said Oruc did not have a valid concealed carry permit.
Oruc is charged with a felony count of carrying a firearm without a license. The FBI was also notified.
Passengers who bring firearms into an airport security checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the TSA up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
Deadly pedestrian crash under investigation
Washington police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a vehicle overnight in the city.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday along the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue.
According to the Washington County Coroner’s Office, a motorist had stopped to assist the driver of a pickup truck. Authorities said the driver thought the trucker had struck an animal in the roadway. After pulling over, the motorist realized the object in the road was a person and called 911.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as Steven Elliott, 51, of Washington.
Names of the drivers were not released. Washington Police Department is investigating.
Messages left Saturday morning with the department and coroner’s office were not immediately returned.
Fire under investigation
A Friday night fire in Ambridge is under investigation.
Firefighters were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to the 900 block of Hazel Avenue in Beaver County.
First responders told news partners WTAE they were greeted by massive flames shooting through the engulfed home.
Ambridge police said no injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
