Police say woman stole iconic sign after longtime business closes

Castle Shannon police charged a woman who they said stole a sign from a longtime business after it permanently closed its doors.

Police took a report at The Linden Grove on Monday. The business owner told police the longtime restaurant and nightclub had closed the day before.

The owner found the “iconic wooden business sign” was missing the next day, police said.

Police said surveillance footage showed a truck pulled into the parking lot around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. The video showed several people getting out of the vehicle, removing the sign from its posts and putting it in the bed of the truck, police said.

Investigators used intersection surveillance footage to identify the truck and its owner. Officials said the suspect, who they identified as Shannon Collins, 42, of Baldwin Borough confessed and gave the sign to the Castle Shannon Police Department.

She was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

In a social media post, Linden Grove urged people to “be kind.”

“While we believe the sign was taken because of our legendary status and an abundance of shenanigans and tomfoolery, it was not done out of spite or (vengeance), and for that we are grateful,” the post reads. “In the end we are happy to have it back and that is really all that matters. For those that have asked what we are doing with the iconic sign, we have some ideas, so stay tuned.”
