State police allege Butler man tried to hit trooper during chase

Pennsylvania State Police on Tuesday said an arrest warrant was issued for a Butler man accused of trying to hit a trooper with his vehicle during a police pursuit.

The chase Monday night involved Kittanning and Butler stations and ended around 4:40 p.m. in East Franklin Township.

Police said Ronald Piper, 46, of Butler attempted to strike a trooper with his vehicle during the pursuit. The trooper was standing on the side of the road after deploying spike strips, officials said.

Troopers in Kittanning early Tuesday morning received a report of a stolen vehicle on Bear Road, near where the previous day’s chase ended. Police believe Piper stole the vehicle after crashing.

That vehicle was later recovered, damaged, on State Route 422 near Swartzlander Lane in Clearfield Township, according to state police.

2 injured in Monroeville crash

Two people were injured in a crash Tuesday evening outside of Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, TribLive news partner WTAE reported.

County officials told WTAE one person was in stable condition and another sustained serious injuries.

The wreck happened along Haymaker Road.

9 cats unaccounted for after Beaver County fire

Nine cats are unaccounted for following a house fire Tuesday in Beaver County, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

Officials responded to the house fire just before 5 a.m. along Freedom Road in Economy.

No injuries were reported.

Economy Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Matthew Books told WTAE it was particularly difficult to put out the fire because of power lines and overgrown trees.
