An Indiana University of Pennsylvania police officer fired a shot at a suspect just outside the campus’ football stadium on Sunday night.

A Pittsburgh man is accused of attacking an Indiana University of Pennsylvania police officer with a knife after making a false report about a robbery in a parking lot near the football stadium.

Cameron H. Raubaugh, 19, is accused of charging at the officer, who then fired a shot. No one was hurt, according to authorities. He is a registered university student, a spokeswoman said.

State police troopers said Raubaugh called 911 at 9:30 p.m. Sunday to claim a robbery happened in the parking lot of George P. Miller Stadium and that the suspect had a knife and was wearing all black clothing. University police found a man there matching that description who was later identified as Raubaugh.

He is accused of charging at police with the knife, pushing an officer to the ground. An officer fired a shot and Raubaugh ran from the area.

After a foot pursuit, Raubaugh was apprehended a few blocks away on Grant Street by officers from the university and Indiana Borough, as well as a state trooper, according to Trooper Cliff Greenfield.

“In the course of the investigation, it was determined that Raubaugh intentionally assaulted the IUP police officer while wielding the knife in an attempt to be shot by the officer,” Greenfield said.

Raubaugh is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, false reports and possession of instruments of crime. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He was denied bail Monday and was being held at the Indiana County Jail, awaiting a mental health evaluation, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 8.
