PHILADELPHIA — A driver arrested after a south Philadelphia crash that killed three people, including two members of a Mummers organization, is now facing third-degree murder charges.
Twenty-nine-year-old Keith Campbell was originally charged with vehicular homicide and aggravated assault after the Jan. 2 crash.
Anthony Voci of the district attorney’s office said Tuesday that murder charges were added “due to the extreme recklessness involved in this crash.” He said a driving under the influence charge was added after toxicology tests. The law firm representing Campbell declined comment.
Prosecutors said Campbell apparently stabbed himself before hitting an oncoming sport utility vehicle, killing 31-year-old Dennis Palandro Jr., 36-year-old Joseph Ferry and 35-year-old Kelly Wiseley. Ferry and Palandro were members of a string band that had performed in the annual New Year’s Day Mummers Parade.
