Network funneling drugs from Philadelphia to Indiana County area dismantled
A network that brought drugs from Philadelphia to Indiana County and the surrounding area for distribution has been dismantled and seven people were arrested, according to federal authorities in Pittsburgh.
Investigators said that the network funneled crack cocaine and methamphetamine across the state and distributed it to street-level dealers and users.
Those indicted were Jelahn Williams, 25; Malik Byers, 28; and Dayton Melton, 22, all of Philadelphia; Ahmed Doumbia, 26, and Romello Johnson-Holland, 24, both of Indiana; and Isaiah Daniels-Wheeler, 24, of Elkins Park, according to an announcement Tuesday from prosecutors. They are accused of conspiring to distribute crack cocaine.
Tamir Washington-Jenkins, 23, of Indiana, is accused of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to the announcement.
Investigators said a few of the suspects made multiple trips between Philadelphia and Indiana from January until April 18 to transport crack cocaine. Authorities said they used wiretaps to gather information from phone calls between the defendants.
Washington-Jenkins allegedly sold methamphetamine on Oct. 10 to a confidential source/undercover officer in exchange for $1,600, authorities said.
Federal investigators worked with state and Indiana Borough law enforcement on the case.
