New Castle police investigating fatal shooting

New Castle police are investigating a fatal shooting that left one man dead Sunday.

Police were dispatched to the area of East Moody Avenue and Carlisle Street for reports of gunshots Sunday, officials said. Officers found a parked Green Chevrolet Tahoe at the scene with a man dead in the driver’s seat.

Police identified the victim as Omar Javarty Hakim, 39.

There were six gunshot holes in the front driver’s door window, New Castle police said.

A rear passenger side window also was shattered. Officials said they believe that happened when one of the rounds fired from inside the vehicle smashed through the window.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional information was not immediately available.
