Oct. 30: Here is covid-19 data from selected Western Pa. colleges

Western Pennsylvania is home community to several colleges and universities, attracting students from around the state and country. During the coronavirus pandemic, many are tracking the number of positive covid-19 cases as they emerge on campus.

University of Pittsburgh

Enrollment: About 35,000 students

New cases: There were 25 student cases and five employee cases added this week.

Isolation bed capacity: 179 beds. There are 31 students in isolation, 14 more than last week.

Total confirmed cases: There have been 322 students and 22 faculty and staff infected since Aug. 1

University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg Campus

Enrollment: About 1,500

Active cases: There were no student cases this week, and two new employee cases.

Total confirmed cases: Five students and four employees since Aug. 1.

Carnegie Mellon University

Enrollment: About 14,000 students

New cases: There was one new student case since last Friday.

Isolation bed capacity: According to a university spokesman, the exact number of beds available depends upon the timing and circumstances of the need, as many students are already in private rooms.

Total confirmed cases: There have been 70 student cases so far this semester, and 74 student cases since March (on- and off-campus).

Chatham University

Enrollment: About 2,300

New cases: There were three new student cases this week (as of Oct. 28).

Isolation bed capacity: 40 rooms. None are in use.

Total confirmed cases: Forty-eight students since Aug. 17. Twenty-five are residents, and 23 are commuter students.

Point Park University

Enrollment: About 4,100

New cases: There were five new student cases and one new employee case this week.

Isolation bed capacity: 32 beds. There are five students in isolation/quarantine. All are active cases.

Total confirmed cases: 24 students and two employees since Aug. 30. Eighteen are commuter students.

Duquesne University

Enrollment: About 9,500 students

New cases: There were 48 new student cases this week (as of Oct. 29).

Isolation bed capacity: There are 28 students in isolation on campus, down from 30 last week; and 72 students in quarantine at a hotel, an increase of 18 from last week (as of Oct. 29).

Total confirmed cases: There’s been a cumulative total of 166 student cases this semester.

Robert Morris University

Enrollment: About 5,300

New cases: There were six new cases this week.

Isolation bed capacity: Three students are in isolation; 29 are in quarantine.

Total confirmed cases: 21 cases since Aug. 21

Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Enrollment: About 12,000 students

New cases: There were 18 new cases among students this week.

Isolation bed capacity: 170 beds. There are 16 students in isolation — 13 are confirmed positive.

Total confirmed cases: 303 students and employees since the fall semester began. There have been 272 recoveries.

Seton Hill University

Enrollment: About 1,700

New cases: There were 1o new student cases this week.

Isolation bed capacity: 21 beds

Total confirmed cases: Fifty-eight students since Aug. 17, including 12 commuters and 46 residents.

Slippery Rock University

Enrollment: About 9,000 students

New cases: There were 16 new student cases added this week (Oct. 22-29).

Isolation bed capacity: There are 27 students in isolation, down from 42 last week; and 48 in quarantine, down from 63 last week.
