Officials recover body of hiker who fell at McConnells Mill in May

The body of a man who fell into a creek while hiking in McConnells Mill State Park in early May has been recovered.

Jeff Hanby II, 38, was found Thursday by search crews, according to a park official.

Hanby fell into Slippery Rock Creek on May 2 while hiking along a rocky path about 100 yards downstream of a covered bridge.

Emergency personnel, including members of the Butler County Water Rescue team, have been searching the waters since Hanby went missing.

Park manager Dustin Drew issued the following statement:

“The body of Jeff Hanby II was recovered this afternoon at McConnells Mill State Park. This concludes the search effort that began on May 2, 2020, when Hanby slipped from a rock and fell into Slippery Rock Creek.

“We are thankful to bring this closure to the family and friends and greatly appreciate the assistance throughout from numerous rescue and first responder organizations.”
