Haunted Halloween attractions abound in Western Pennsylvania

Here’s a rundown of some of the haunts you’ll find in the area this month.

Allen’s Haunted Hayrides and Tavern of Terror

2430 Pittsburgh Road, Smock

The Allen family has been scaring people for decades. Open every weekend in October, guests can choose from a haunted hayride, the Tavern of Terror or both. allenshayrides.com.

Castle Blood

100 Schoonmaker Ave., Monessen

Billed as “Pennsylvania’s most unusual haunted attraction,” Castle Blood is located in a historic funeral home that’s a century old. Because the haunts can be too much for younger guests, there’s a daytime No-Scare Matinee Tour offering. thecastleblood.com.

Demon House

417 Coyle Curtin Road, Monongahela

Demon House’s website claims that the mansion is an actual haunted house where more than 70 unmarked graves were discovered during its excavation. The historic mansion is open 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday nights and until 10 p.m. on Sundays. demonhouse.com.

Eerie Acres Farm Haunted House

386 Eagle Mill Road, Butler

The new haunted house and corn maze with the motto “We Farm Fear” is open every Friday and Saturday night through October. Food trucks and a beer garden that features a different brewery every night add to the fall fun. eerieacresfarm.com.

Hopewell Windmill Haunted Mini Golf

2142 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa

A Halloween activity with a twist, Hopewell Mini Golf is open every day through Halloween, featuring 18 haunted holes of mini golf with glow-in-the-dark golf balls and a decorated course. hopewellwindmill.com.

Phantom Fright Nights at Kennywood Park

4800 Kennywood Blvd., West Mifflin

It features the new “mAlice in Wonderland” haunted house along with “Voodoo Bayou,” “Villa of the Vampire,” and “Shady Grove Memorial Hospital,” as well as four walkthrough scare zones, including the new “Dead Light District.” kennywood.com.

ScareHouse at Pittsburgh Mills

461 Pittsburgh Mills Circle, Frazer

The Travel Channel calls ScareHouse “One of America’s scariest Halloween attractions.” It’s been at the Pittsburgh Mills Mall since 2020. scarehouse.com.

Halloboo! at Idlewild Park

2574 Lincoln Highway, Ligonier

Definitely the most family-friendly Halloween attraction, Halloboo! features a trick-or-treat trail through Story Book Forest, new live shows at Hillside Theater and the Hallowboo Express Railroad. idlewild.com.

Halloween Hauntings

1386 Route 30 East, Ligonier

Ligonier Valley Historical Society’s annual “Halloween Hauntings” event is called “Hair-Raising History: True Stories from the Ligonier Valley” and takes place at the historic Compass Inn Museum.

Hobgoblin Hikes

Westmoreland County

Atmospheric Hobgoblin Hikes are being held this year in Mammoth and Northmoreland Parks. They are free, open to all ages and about a half mile long. There are 12 to 15 stations along the path, and there are different themes. The Mammoth Park Hobgoblin Hike is Oct. 22 and the Northmoreland Park Hobgoblin Hike is Oct. 29. co.westmoreland.pa.us.

Lonesome Valley of Terror

180 Fairgrounds Road, Greensburg

Located next to the Westmoreland Fairgrounds, this haunted hayride includes a more than five-acre haunted maze and trail featuring creatures around every corner, as well as the “Slotter Farmhouse & Barn.” lonesomevalleyfarms.com.

Beastly Haunted Trail

3394 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa

Zombies are the stars of this attraction at the Beaver County Humane Society’s shelter grounds. The scares are said to be some of the best in the area, and it’s not recommended for young children. beavercountyhumanesociety.org.
