Part of Parkway East among Top 10 riskiest roads in major cities

A section of the Parkway East ranks among the riskiest roads in the country, according to Allstate.

Allstate analyzed driving behavior across the 50 most populous U.S. cities and identified the 10 riskiest road segments based on rates of hard braking and speeding — two key indicators of aggressive driving.

The Parkway East outbound from Exit 74 to Beechwood Boulevard — before the Squirrel Hill Tunnel — came in fifth place. Exit 74 is the Squirrel Hill/Homestead exit.

Allstate said the riskiest times to travel in that portion of Parkway East are 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Thursday, midnight to 4 a.m. Friday and 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday.

The safest times to travel are from 7-11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

The Top 10 riskiest roads in major U.S. cities list includes the following, according to Allstate:

2. SR-166E (Exit to Lakewood Avenue) in Atlanta

3. SH-35 (Exit to I-44E) in Oklahoma City

4. I-240E (Exit 12A to Summer Avenue) in Memphis

5. I-376W (Exit 74 to Beechwood Boulevard) in Pittsburgh

6. I-17N (Exit 223B to SR-74W) in Phoenix

7. I-95N (Exit 59 to MD-150) in Baltimore

8. I-11N/US-95N (Exit 82A to Lake Mead Boulevard E) in Las Vegas

9. I-94E (Exit 219 to Gratiot Avenue) in Detroit

10. I-10E (Exit 578 to Pecan Valley Drive) in San Antonio

Allstate measured sudden stops, complex merges and frequent lane changes.

Aggressive driving in cities is especially common on weekends, according to Drivewise data. Drivewise is a safe driving program available in the Allstate app.

Fatal car crashes are more frequent on weekends, peaking on Saturdays, according to the National Safety Council’s most recent analysis of federal crash data.
