The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of the Laurel Highlands through noon Thursday.

Snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected, with winds gusting as high as 35 mph, according to the NWS Pittsburgh office in Moon Township.

The advisory covers the ridges of Westmoreland and Fayette counties, including the communities of Ligonier and Donegal, as well as Mercer, Venango and Forest counties to the north.

A winter weather advisory means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Motorists should expect snow-covered roads and limited visibility and should use caution while driving during the evening and morning commutes, the weather service said.
