PHEAA extends grant application deadline to May 15
Prompted by a sharp reduction in financial aid applications from students who plan to go to college, the state’s Higher Education Assistance Agency said Tuesday it is extending the deadline for applications to Friday, May 15. The original deadline was May 1.
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is urging students and families to complete the 2020-21 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to avoid losing access to important student aid opportunities, especially for those with the most financial need.
The FAFSA is a free application that must be completed to determine eligibility for the state grant program and most other forms of student aid, including federal Pell Grants and low-cost federal student loans, in addition to many forms of campus-based aid.
“We have been working with our secondary and post-secondary school partners throughout the commonwealth to get the word out that students and families still have time to apply. But the clock is ticking,” said Rep. Mike Peifer, PHEAA board chairman.
