Powdermill Nature Reserve will present Cicadapalooza! from 2 p.m. to about 4 p.m. Sunday at its Rector, Westmoreland County, facility.

The event is free to the public.

Staff will discuss the periodical cicada Brood VIII currently resurfacing at Powdermill and elsewhere around the region. The event features a lecture on cicada biology, morphology, songs, behavior, distribution and more.

Then, there’s some the field work, too.

Following the lecture, staff will take participants outdoors to listen to and find specimens of Brood VIII on the grounds of Powdermill. The public can collect a cicada, pin it, and take it home if they like.

Powdermill Nature Reserve is located at 795 State Route 381 Road in Rector.
