A larger graduation class means a larger venue for the University of Pittsburgh’s spring commencement.
Pitt’s universitywide undergraduate spring commencement ceremony will be held May 3 at Acrisure Stadium on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.
“This venue change will ensure every eligible graduate can participate and receive an appropriate number of tickets for their family and friends,” said Jared Stonesifer, Pitt spokesman.
Stonesifer said Pitt doesn’t have official numbers of graduates yet, “but it’s expected to be one of the largest classes ever.”
Acrisure has a total seating capacity of 68,400. Last spring, Pitt’s commencement was held at PPG Paints Arena. There, more than 5,000 students graduated, its largest-ever, according to Pitt. Graduates could invite up to six guests.
Before that, graduation was held on-campus at the Petersen Events Center, which seats 12,500.
