Pittsburgh area could get another snowstorm late Wednesday evening

Snow lovers certainly cannot complain about the recent weather.

The next round of snowstorms is expected to arrive late Wednesday evening in the Pittsburgh area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday for Westmoreland, Indiana, Fayette and Greene counties, where snow totals are expected to be 3 to 5 inches through Thursday morning.

The heaviest snow is expected across the Pennsylvania and West Virginia ridges, with less farther north and west.

After a brief break Thursday afternoon, more snow is expected Thursday evening through Friday morning, according to the weather service.

As of Wednesday, 9.3 inches of snow has fallen in February, according to the NWS. The largest amount of snowfall to land in a year’s second month came in 2010, when 48.7 inches dropped. The smallest amount to fall in February was just .5 inches in 1909. The average over the past 30 years: 10.3 inches.

Allegheny County officials were readying salt trucks Wednesday.

“We have 27 salt trucks with plows installed currently out monitoring for slick spots,” Brent Wasko, a spokesman for Allegheny County Department of Public Works, said in a statement. “When the storm begins, they will start clearing and salting our roadways. Our drivers will have their shifts extended to ensure complete coverage until this round of snow stops. If the forecast changes and higher accumulation becomes a possibility, we may bring in more drivers.”
