Planet Fitness to require all members to wear masks starting Aug. 1
Starting Aug. 1, members of Planet Fitness won’t just be banned from grunting. They’ll be banned from going bare-faced too.
The fitness club company said the mandatory mask mandate for all members and employees was put in place to ensure that all gym members can “gym confidently in a safe environment” as covid-19 continues to spread.
Masks will be required at all times except when someone is in a private enclosure such as a shower, changing room or tanning room or taking a drink, the club said. If you forget a mask, the club will provide one for you.
“Wearing a mask in public is proven to help reduce the spread of covid-19, and as a leader in the fitness industry, and your long-term partner in health and wellness, we are committed to doing everything in our power to ensure the health and safety of our Planet Fitness community,” the club’s website says. “Thank you in advance for your support and adherence to this policy. This added safety precaution also helps us to remain open to serve you and keep you healthy and active.”
Employees have been required to wear masks since May 1. They also receive daily temperature checks.
Planet Fitness, like other businesses nationwide, has implemented safety measures and guidelines in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition to requiring masks, the club has temporarily suspended its Pizza Monday and Bagel Tuesday events, implemented touch-less check-ins, added cleaning stations, and made exercise machines temporarily unavailable to allow for proper social distancing.
