State police say a Clinton Township husband and wife stole more than $340,000 from their former employer over two years.

Adam Joshua Lesseski, 35, and Kara Lynn Lesseski, 37, took the money from Concrete Coring in Jefferson Township between January 2017 and last March , police said.

Adam Lesseski was vice president of the company while Kara Lesseski was an administrative assistant, according to the criminal complaints against them.

The Lesseskis have separate attorneys. Adam Lesseski’s attorney, Charles Hoebler, said his client did not commit a crime.

“His actions related to this matter were with the knowledge of, and at the direction of, the president of Concrete Coring Co.,” Hoebler said.

Kara Lesseski’s attorney, Anastasa Williams, said she could not comment without first checking with her client.

The thefts were allegedly discovered after the company owner began a review and investigation of the company’s records and finances after the Laborer’s District Council of Western Pennsylvania filed suit claiming the company owed $643,500, including nearly $455,000 in unpaid fringe benefit contributions and wage deductions.

The owner hired a firm to do a forensic analysis of of the company’s financial records after allegedly finding that the Lesseskis had made unauthorized payments to themselves, according to the complaints.

The forensic analysis found about $263,000 in misappropriated company funds, police said.

Many of the transactions to the couple were extra payroll checks and employee advances by company checks, which were cashed at banks and Walmart locations, the complaints allege.

Investigators found that the accounting history and details in the company’s software for many transactions were altered or deleted, allegedly to hide the Lesseskis activities.

Police said they reviewed Adam Lesseski’s bank records from January 2017 through March 2019 and found 21 checks totaling about $20,700 payable to Concrete Coring that were deposited into a bank account in Adam Lesseski’s name that his wife also used.

Police claim the Lesseskis used the names of 13 people to make bogus payroll or expense payments, and the checks were then forged and deposited into a bank account in Adam Lesseski’s name that the couple used. Those payments allegedly totaled almost $60,000, according to the complaint.

Police said 65 forged checks were identified.

Police filed 65 counts of forgery against Adam Lesseski along with three counts of conspiracy and two theft charges.

Kara Lesseski is charged with three counts of conspiracy and two counts of theft.

Each was arraigned Tuesday and released on $350,000 unsecured bond, according to court documents.

Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 12 before District Judge Sue Haggerty.
