A teen was shot and a man injured in a scuffle late on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Regal Cinemas in North Franklin Township, Washington County.

Washington County authorities continue looking for witnesses to a movie theater shooting last month, the district attorney said Friday.

The March 23 shooting at the Regal Theater in North Franklin left one boy with a gunshot wound to his leg after an altercation with a Greene County man that spilled out of the auditorium and into a hallway, authorities said at the time of the shooting.

District Attorney Gene Vittone said Pennsylvania State Police are still in the investigatory stages of the incident.

“This investigation has been prolonged as there are witnesses who still need to be interviewed,” Vittone said.

State police said in the aftermath that the boy was one of six teenagers who were allegedly causing a disturbance during a movie just before midnight. Police said they were moving about the theater, which is part of the Washington Crown Center mall, and changing their seats.

Other patrons asked the boys to sit still and be quiet, police reported, and the Greene County man allegedly ended up in a physical altercation with the boys. The confrontation spilled to the hallway, where the man pulled out a gun, sparking a struggle over the weapon.

The firearm discharged, and the boy was shot in the leg. He was treated and released. The man, who was injured in the scuffle, was also treated and released.

“On the night of the incident, most witnesses left the theater immediately following the gunshot and were not available for the police to interview,” Vittone said. “There are several critical witnesses remaining who need to be interviewed by the (police).”

Those witnesses, he said, likely hold the key to understanding what happened in the theater. Once police have those witness statements, they can wrap up the investigation and prosecutors can decide if criminal charges are warranted.

Vittone asked that anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with police call 724-223-5200.
