Power outages minimal as snow slows for Christmas Day
Most homes experiencing a power outage during the last 36 hours of winter weather are likely to have the lights on for breakfast Christmas morning, as suppliers continue working to restore electricity across the region.
Duquesne Light reported fewer than 200 customers without power as of 8:30 a.m. Christmas morning, mostly in small pockets of single-digit outages, although a group of about 120 customers in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood were still waiting for power to return.
West Penn Power reports about 250 customers without power in Armstrong, Allegheny, Westmoreland and Butler counties, with about 3,700 customers statewide across its service area as of 12:30 p.m. Outages are largely limited to groups of less than 20 customers.

Emergency officials were also receiving reports of sporadic residential flooding due to frozen and damaged water pipes, as well as a report of flooding in the Macy’s at the Westmoreland Mall around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The National Weather Service forecast for Christmas Day in western Pennsylvania is calling for a slight chance of snow showers before 1 p.m. and mostly cloudy weather with a high near 17 degrees and wind-chill values down to minus-7 degrees.
