President Trump is headed to Wheeling, W.Va., for a campaign appearance at a private fundraiser on July 24 that will be sponsored by a coal company executive, according to reports from the Wheeling Intelligencer newspaper.
Trump is to speak at the fundraiser at WesBanco Arena, which will be hosted by Robert Murray, president of Murray Energy Corp. of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Neither the White House press office nor Jason Witt, a spokesman for Murray Energy, could be reached for comment Wednesday night.
Murray has been a big supporter of Trump and Trump in turn, tweeted in February that the Tennessee Valley Authority should keep operating a coal-fueled power plant in Kentucky that buys coal from one of Murray Energy’s companies.
Murray has long complained about environmental regulations that have made it more difficult for coal companies to operate.
