Nothing is forever, including the price of stamps.

Starting Jan. 27, the price of Forever stamps is expected to increase by five cents, from 50 cents to 55 cents, according to a release from the United States Postal Service.

Other mailing and shipping services also are expected to increase. For example, the cost of shipping a small flat rate box will increase to $7.90, and Priority Mail Express services will increase by about 2.5 percent.

The cost of shipping a domestic postcard will remain at 35 cents.

The Postal Service isn’t funded by taxes. It relies on the sale of products and services, USA Today reports.

It lost $3.8 billion in 2018 — the 12th year in a row the agency reported a loss — due to drops in mail volume coupled with the costs of pensions and health care, according to USA Today.
