Rain returns briefly before string of mild days
After three days of sunny — and dry — weather, thunderstorms are expected to return Monday with potentially damaging winds and hail, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain is expected late in the afternoon, just in time for rush hour, with stronger storms coming through after midnight.
Temperatures will linger near 80 degrees.
It’s the only blemish on an otherwise pleasant week-long forecast.
Rain is expected to move through the region by Tuesday and temperatures should reach a high near 77 before climbing into the mid-80s Wednesday and Thursday.
It’s been awhile since the area has seen a string of dry days.
At least a trace of rain was measured at Pittsburgh International Airport, where the NWS records the region’s official totals, on 20 days in April and another 10 days by mid-May.
On May 29, Mother Nature shattered a seven-year-old rainfall record when 1.93 inches fell at Pittsburgh International.
That broke the record of 1.29 inches for rain on May 29 that had stood since 2012.
