Region's churches spread Holy Week message online
A number of the region’s churches will livestream Holy Week services as the state’s stay at home order remains in effect through the month’s end.
• Catholic Diocese of Greensburg’s virtual Holy Week services will be streamed at dioceseofgreensburg.org, facebook.com/dioceseofgreensburg and youtube.com.
• Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik will celebrate Holy Week Masses and prayer services via livestream from the chapel of St. Paul Seminary. The services can be seen at diopitt.org.
• Christ Our Hope Anglican Church, Harrison, will livestream the following services: A Maundy Thursday service with a special spiritual communion will be at 7 p.m. A Good Friday service will be at 7 p.m. and an Easter Sunday service with morning prayer and blended traditional and contemporary music will be at 10 a.m., all at facebook.com/findusatchristourhope. You do not need to have a Facebook account to pull up a business or church Facebook page.
• Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, Leechburg, will stream a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. and there will be an Easter Sunday service at 10:15 a.m. at crcpc.org. • In the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, most churches offer services online. See episcopalpgh.org/online-worship for a listing. The largest congregation, Calvary in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty, livestreams all services on its Facebook page and website (calvarypgh.org), and posts them to YouTube. For Holy Week, there is Evening Prayer at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maundy Thursday begins at 7:30 p.m. The Good Friday liturgy with vocal Passion Gospel begins at 12 noon. The Easter Sunday service is at 11 a.m. In Ligonier, St. Michael’s of the Valley streams Morning Prayer services at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays on its Facebook page and posts them at stmichaelsligonier.org/online-services. The Easter prayer service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Maundy Thursday will be observed with Evening Prayer at 7 p.m.
• First Baptist Church, Leechburg, will have live services at facebook.com/FirstBaptistLBG, including a Bible study on the trials of Jesus at 4 p.m. Thursday, a message on the crucifixion of Jesus at noon Friday and a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus at 11 a.m. Easter Sunday. Audio recordings of these services will be available after the service at firstbaptistchurchleechburg.org.
• First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Leechburg will stream Easter Sunday services at 10:30 a.m. at facebook.com/servinggodgracefully. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will both be at 7:30 p.m.
• Harvest Baptist Church in Natrona Heights will be streaming services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Easter Sunday will be at 10 a.m. Those services can be viewed at facebook.com/harvestnatrona. The church also plans a cinematic drive-in Easter experience April 10-12 at the Riverside Drive-In in Vandergrift. Details at www.harvesteaster.com.
• Hebron and St. Paul Lutheran churches will have video worship service at 10 a.m. Easter Sunday at facebook.com/HebronLeechburg. The service will be available via Zoomby calling 646-558-8656, with meeting ID number 619 676 1687, followed by the pound sign (#) twice. Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and an Easter Vigil Saturday service will all be at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live or Zoom. Details: 724-842-0801 or 724-567-7462 or email rpusch001@luthersem.edu.
• Clergy from Ligonier area churches will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Sunday in the Ligonier Giant Eagle parking lot.
Attendees should stay in their vehicles with the windows up. They will be instructed to tune into a local FCC-approved AM radio frequency that will broadcast the audio of the service. Clergy members will practice social distancing as they lead worship, which will last about 45 minutes. No restrooms will be available. Details at ligoniereaster.com.
• McDonald Bible Methodist Church, South Fayette, will have its Easter service available at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at McdonaldBMC.org and facebook.com/McDonaldBibleMethodist/
• Puckety Presbyterian Church, Lower Burrell, will stream services at facebook.com/PucketyChurch or at zoom.us/j/101971455. For help downloading the Zoom application, visit pucketychurch.org.
• Salvation Army of New Kensington will have online services at 11 a.m. Sundays at facebook.com/TSANewKen.
• Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Freeport, and Faith Lutheran Church, Harrison, will offer a recorded Good Friday service at 6, 8 and 10 a.m., noon, 2, 4, 6 and 7:30 p.m. in front of the church, Fifth Street, in Freeport. Those attending should park along the street facing the cross and tune their car radio to 99.9 FM. Turn your car key to the “accessory” position so the car does not have to be running. Trinity Lutheran Church will have Easter services at 7 and 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Laube Hall. Those attending should remain in their cars. In case of inclement weather, the service will be in the Valley Camp Pavilion just inside the park so the sound system can be under cover.
• Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge, will have online worship services at 9 a.m. Easter Sunday at facebook.com/TrinityBrackenridge and tumc-brackenridge.org. Suggestions for family observances of Holy Thursday will be posted on the church webpage. A Facebook Live “Remembrance” of the events of Good Friday will be at 3 p.m. and will discuss what they mean for us, and how important it is in these days of “stay at home” anxieties.
• Zion United Methodist Church, Buffalo Township, will be livestreaming worship services at 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. On Easter Sunday, worship services will be at 6:30 a.m. for the Sunrise Service and then at 10 a.m. for the main worship gathering. After the times of worship, the services will be saved to Facebook, as well as uploaded to the church’s YouTube channel. Details at zionsarver.com.
