Reward offered for information in fatal hit-and-run on Pennsylvania Turnpike
A reward is being offered by Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Somerset County this month.
A female pedestrian was killed Jan. 4 after being hit by a vehicle just before the Somerset exit, troopers said. That vehicle fled eastbound.
State police said the woman and a man got out of a vehicle stopped on the left shoulder of the highway at milepost 109.8 and crossed the road near the Somerset exit ramp.
Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers said the couple was attempting to cross the highway to get back to their disabled vehicle when the woman was hit by another vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle likely will have damage to the front end, front corner and mirror, according to the organization.
State police tweeted a photo of a “vehicle of interest” in the crash. The picture shows a white truck cab with a flatbed trailer hauling what appears to be three vehicles. It was unclear if that was the vehicle police believe was involved.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Somerset County coroner did not return a message Friday seeking her identity. Police said she was between 30 and 40.
Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Brandon Miller at the Somerset station at 814-445-9606. He could not be reached Friday.
Tips can be made anonymously to Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS or online at p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=107. Crime Stoppers did not say how much the reward could be worth for information that leads to an arrest.
